5th General Assembly
Sunday 7 October 2012, Old Olive Mill – Elefsina
On Sunday, October 7, 2012, the 5th General Assembly of the DIAZOMA was held at the old Olive Mill in Elefsina. This meeting was special and of great symbolic meaning since it was the first review in four years. A 20-minute documentary was presented, showing the work of DIAZOMA, both in the field of recording and documenting the monuments, as well as in their work of excellence. Simultaneously, the ideas and dreams for the next four years have been developed:
• the development of management plans, which will include the attention and care of the monuments after their restoration
• The creation of environmental zones around the monuments
• The creation of tourist paths to ancient theaters linking the monuments to the real economy and development (cultural tourism)
• Linking DIAZOMA to corresponding European networks and European research programs
• The promotion of educational programs.
In the context of the work of the 5th General Assembly, the members and guests of DIAZOMA enjoyed the exceptional tour of the archeological site of Elefsina guided by the archaeologist Mrs. Kalliopi Papaggeli
The leading event of the tour was the recitation of the Orphic Hymn by the member of DIAZOMA, Mrs. Lydia Koniordou, in the impressive ceremonial area, where the most mysterious ceremonies took place. The Regional Unit of Western Attica and the Deputy Regional Governor Mrs. Stavroula Dimou have taken the initiative to conduct a Programming Agreement between the Region of Attica and the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports, amounting to 100,000 Euros, for the promotion of this important monument. The amount of the Programming Agreement will be earmarked to finance the rehabilitation and promotion works of the ceremonial area.
