Archaeological park of Orchomenus, Boetia

The Mycenean Tomb of Minyas, an ancient theatre, a 9th-century monastery: three unique monuments within striking distance of each other. They now come together in a single archaeological park, a jewel in the crown of the Cultural Route of Central Greece, which unlocks the secrets of this land to benefit local communities and tourism growth.

DIAZOMA and its social partners worked together on the pilot project to create the Archaeological Park of Orchomenus in Boetia. It is not only a unique archaeological park but also one of the poles of attraction of the “OEDIPUS” Cultural Route of Central Greece.

The park comprises a rare ensemble of monuments of immeasurable cultural value: the tholos tomb of Minyas also known as the “Treasury of Minyas” (1250 BC), the third-century theatre of Orchomenus, and the transitional type cross-domed Church of the Panagia Skripou, a rare Byzantine monument of the ninth century.

Utilizing the enormous potential of the ancient theatre’s “piggy bank,” DIAZOMA commissioned all the studies required for the creation of the archaeological park. All of these studies have received approval from the relevant authorities.
