Working visit of the President of DIAZOMA Association to the ancient theater of Samos

On Tuesday, November 13, 2012 the President and the Vice President of DIAZOMA Association Mr. Stavros Benos and Mr. Petros Themelis respectively, made a working visit to the ancient theater of Samos.

A wooden installation with orchestra seats, which can accommodate approximately 750 spectators is in place today at the ancient theater of Samos (images 1-2).

The two executives also visited the ancient quarries located on the Castle Hill (images 3-4). The underground tunnels of the ancient quarries are remarkably preserved. As Mr. Petros Themelis noted, these ancient quarries are very important as they were equivalent to those of Syracuse.

The creation of an archaeological park in the Pythagoreon of Samos is of great importance, as already suggested by local authorities, since it would include archaeological routes to all major ancient monuments of the area.

DIAZOMA has put in place a “piggy bank” –a special bank account for the ancient theater and the archaeological park of Samos- which will raise money to fund the enhancement of all the monuments and the creation of an archaeological park.
