The Great Petros Themelis and the Wonder of Ancient Messene
On Thursday the 16th of December 2010, students from Varvakion Highschool had a chance to “meet” DIAZOMA at the function hall of the State General Records building. This meeting was the result of the initiative of a number of the students’ teachers, namely Ms. E. Zervou, Ms. H. Petropoulou, Ms. N. Tsenoglou and Ms. M. Beloyianni, who is a member of DIAZOMA.
The president of DIAZOMA Mr. Stavros Benos had a chance to discuss with the students and answer their questions, after a presentation concerning the historical site of Delphi by the Deputy Head of the I’ Ephorate of Prehestoric and Classical Antiquities (EPKA), Ms. Athanasia Psalti. The presentation focused on the ancient theatre in Delphi, which the students had expressed an interest in “adopting”.
The students left this meeting with an array of information that will prove to be extremely helpful in the variety of activities they will participate in during a forthcoming visit to the ancient theatre of Delphi. This interactive, organic way of experiencing their visit will hopefully allow them to appreciate the importance of the ancient Greek culture and realise they can play an active part in its preservation.
